The production of sheep and goat meat on the World market has been on the decline over the last ten (10) years but the demand has increased to include specialized cuts and niche requirements. Upstream Development Company Limited, was founded on the vision to take the industry forward by developing a superior brand of sheep and goat meat by implementing strategies in flock development to maximize in areas of health, breeding and farm management. As member of the Sheep and Goat Association of Trinidad and Tobago, and partner to many profit and non-profit agricultural organizations, the visionary Mr. Nelton Augustine has acquired much skill and expertise in the area of sheep and goat rearing facilities, management and development, and has become very resourcef ...ul in providing his research and experience to these bodies.
Corporate efforts by agricultural organizations and farmers have been initiated in the past to seek to satisfy the local market with an effective supply of products derived from this industry. Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) has in the recent past founded these initiatives but attempts to keep supply afloat have been futile. We intend on bridging the gap that is existent between the foreign supply and local production activities in the sheep and goat market available in our country.
Our ideas will make us the best in the industry providing customers with a superior meat product low in fat high in proteins. This we intend to make possible through research and development strategies to perfect the gene in these sheep and goats effectively raising the genetic qualities of the breed to produce a premium lamb carcass and quality cuts that is considered desirable in todays market. Improvement in these genotypes will further give rise to adding value to the other commodities and products derived from our operation.
The base of this project is nested safely in the northern range of our twin island republic, Trinidad, approximately northeastern on the cardinal points and 9 ? miles from urban city Sangre Grande. This lush pasture and rural scenery will afford the proper environment for project success and strategic and tactical livestock breeding and management.

Segmentation of produce on site will transparently prove to further effectiveness and increase in companys public image. Since our organization will be operating in all sectors of the economy, Primary (Raw materials for products and services), Secondary (manufacturing of these products), and Tertiary (services rendered to further add value to products made), it is essential that strategic segmenting of market produce is implemented so as to add value at each successive stage of production.
Cyclical Breeding Chart
The breeding and rearing of these animals will be done to precision and tactical measures implemented (as shown on the cyclical breeding chart above) will see to it that we produce a product that super-cedes all competition and at the same time making the genetic offspring available to local producers to ensure an effective continuation and contribution from all local ends. Thus we intend on not only providing offspring for new and developing organizations in the same industry but also aiding in technical and operational strategies for advance in farm management techniques.
Our production lines will see and all year round supply of sheep and goat meat, targeting especially the seasonal and religious festive seasons when demand will be its highest. Our arm will not only be involved in producing but also in the distribution of our products.
Our produce will be taken from the rearing stage right through to packaging, hence ensuring that the quality and standard of our animals and meat are maintained. Our products will include the sale of live whole animals, dead whole animals (cleaned but not cut), special cuts (halves and quarters targeting requested retailers), service cuts (for the tertiary sector industry type business such as hotels, restaurants, food chains etc.), retailers cut (for smaller businesses and groceries), vacuum sealed packaged cuts (like ham as shown on the left etc), ribs and boney cuts, boneless cuts and many more (see attachment).
Machinery and equipment imported will contribute to further efficiency and quality of our market presentation. The Ultravac 3500 Automatic Vacuum Chamber Packaging (left) Machine and the Ultramatic P154/105 Brine Injector (right) are just two to name a few that will be adding value to our production line.
Other byproducts such as animal organs, skin and manure will be provided to purchasers interested. Services would include research and development, veterinarian services, genetic enhancements, farm management and much more. To this end our dedicated team of farmers, engineers, financial reporters, legal representatives, businessmen and investors has pooled ideas and resources together to ensure this dream becomes a never fading reality.
